“Aeration at City Reservoir Begins” -- Press Release The City of Melville Water Works will turn on the aeration system at the Crescent Creek Reservoir commonly known as the “Melville Reservoir or Melville Dam” effective January 11, 2012. Each year the City of Melville starts pumping air into the reservoir to sustain fish and improve water quality. Water quality has deteriorated that it is necessary to begin the aeration system at this time. In the interest of public safety, all open water/thin ice areas associated with the operation of the aeration system will be properly cordoned off in conjunction with start-up. The cordoned off areas will be in accordance with Saskatchewan Environment guidelines. To date the safety record has been perfect. The City of Melville hopes with the public’s support that this record continues. The public is advised to stay away from open water. During start-up air may travel to different areas under the ice. Please stay away from the cordoned off area. All fishing huts within the cordoned off area should be removed immediately. According to the Reservoir Bylaw 21/2009 snowmobiles, quads and trikes are allowed on the ice surface immediately west of the cordoned off area of the aeration project. A new item of the bylaw addresses fishing shack locations and removal. Please note this is a public water supply reservoir. Please keep it clean, you are walking on our drinking water. Keep garbage contained and off the reservoir. Public washrooms are provided on the northeast area of the reservoir for your convenience. If you require further information please call 728-6870. Thank you for your cooperation.
